DOL Fees Go Up Nov 15, 2022

Emailed on Sept 13 from DOL –

This increase was proposed for 2020 and the association and stakeholders pushed back on its timing due to the pandemic:

“The Department of Licensing (DOL) has been working to update fee increases since the fall of 2019. These fees were initially intended to take effect in November 2020 but impacts due to the Covid-19 pandemic have caused delays.

The last fee increases for the Cosmetology programs was in 2010. Under RCW 43.24.086, we must set fees “at a sufficient level to defray the costs of administering that program.” The current fees we charge won’t cover the costs of the Cosmetology programs.

The proposed fee increases will go into effect November 15th, 2022, and will cover the costs for information technology systems, staffing levels, and other critical services needed to support licensees and maintain public safety.

Below is a table showing the current fees for the Cosmetology programs, and the proposed new fee.

We understand the challenges our licensees are experiencing during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are committed to doing all we can to support our licensees and the public during these difficult times.

In early 2022, we filed our preproposal of inquiry to notify the public of the planned fee increases.

We will continue to update you as we go through this process. If you have questions or would like to share any concerns with us, please send an email to: rulescoordinator@dol.wa.gov.”
