Member Advocates voted YES on acquiring our lobbyist Brooke Davies for the rest of 2022 into 2023.

Cosmetologists United originally hired Brooke for the 2022 legislative session. Her work with our association was instrumental in helping us achieve success during the session.

Accomplishments for 2022

  • We negotiated on a bill that will enable stylists who had their licenses canceled during the pandemic to renew their license through June 30, 2023.
  • We saved our Small Businesses money by supporting a bill that will raise the tax reporting threshold to $125K gross per year and increase the small business credit.
  • We helped pass a bill that removes barriers to enter our field by those that may have previous criminal convictions.

Why have a lobbyist year round?

Most trade/small business organizations have a lobbyist on staff year round. This helps us get out ahead of any poor legislation that may be coming our way. It also makes our organization more accessible for lawmakers to want to learn more about our industry and collaborate with the association.

So far outside of session Brooke has helped us set up quarterly meetings with the Department of Licensing, and given us almost immediate access to the Department to discuss Advocate concerns.

As a small newly developed trade association our goals and dreams for aiding our industry are HUGE, but our pockets are small! We have officially been accepted as a 501 c6 Non-Profit, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! Unfortunately our donations are not tax Deductible.

To combat this we have come up with 3 new memberships. Memberships in a Non-Profit trade organization are tax deductible. Of course we appreciate any donations, but want our supporters to be able to take full advantage of funding the cause.

Note: COWU is a recognized 501 C6 non-profit organization. Member enrollment may be deducted as an industry professional trade expense. *Donations are NOT tax deductible.
