Last Push! for Legislative Session 2022

We have less than 6 days left in the 2022 legislative session in Olympia, WA!

Legislators have been feverishly debating and voting on bills in both chambers as the short session comes to a close on March 10. This is YOUR LAST CHANCE  to tell legislators how you feel about bills that Cosmetologists of Washington United have highlighted with lobbyist, Brooke Davies.

For the entirety of Personal Services Industry in WA State:

  • Please Email Your Senator to THANK THEM for PASSING  ESHB 1930!! It allows for Dept of Cosmetology Operator & Instructor Licenses that were canceled after March,1st 2020 an opportunity to renew their license with just a late fee until Jun 2023. This is a bipartisan bill that was crafted and passed in the House with unanimous support. It was passed in the Senate on March 3, 2022. Comment directly on the bill after verifying your district. This gives a helping hand to those who we want to stay in this industry after suffering ripples from the pandemic as well as issues with the new online renewal system.

(or email legislators directly thanking them for passing the bill)

Priority for Employers Across Washington:

  • If you are an employer & would like to join the larger business community in OPPOSING 1837 the Ergonomics bill- please share your personal story with Senators regarding specifically how allowing L&I to make more ergonomics rules will negatively impact your business. Below are a couple talking points but it is important to share your individual narrative with legislators and ——————————- not a form letter—-> YOUR STORY IS MOST EFFECTIVE. HOW MUCH WOULD IT COST YOU TO COMPLY?

  • Voters already voted this down via initiative in 2003
  • A federal standard has not been established per that I-841 initiative
  • The cost to businesses to comply with new L&I ergonomics rules across all industries could cost businesses up to  $1 billion
  • L&I already implements safety items regarding ergonomics and there is no fiscal note on the bill
  • The causes and cures for repetitive stress injuries cannot be isolated nor has the issue been “settled.”

We appreciate your time and consideration and we look forward to continuing this work with you into the future! Sincerely, Cosmetologistsof Washington United
